Red Iron Metal For Sale

2 1/4" corrugated metal panel

Red Iron Metal

The name Red Iron comes from steel that has been given a protective iron oxide coating. This protective barrier acts as an additional protective layer, preventing the steel from corrosion. Red Iron, also known as structural steel, is known for its strength and long-lasting durability, and is commonly used in the construction of metal buildings and warehouses.

Red Iron Metal Applications

Commercial Buildings

Red Iron for commercial buildings offers strength and added longevity when creating commercial spaces with large, open areas. Cee Perlins can support wide roof spaces while reducing the number of columns and supports needed, making them ideal for larger showrooms, warehouse spaces, and retail areas where the ease of a walkable floor plan is everything.
Receiver channels and base angles provide clean finished integrations for metal wall panels and interior finishes, where square tubing can be used in door framing, mezzanines, and canopy structures.

Agricultural Buildings

When constructing ag buildings, Red iron metal offers low-maintenance with long-lasting durability. It’s resistant to weather due to its additional coating, but can be painted for even greater strength. Along with being able to support heavy loads, creating large garages or livestock barns is easy using Cee Perlins and square tubing to create wide-spanning structures that can store hay, serve as a machinery shed, or riding arenas. Base angles make panel installations even easier on uneven foundations. While receiver channels seamlessly integrate sliding or open bay doors into your structure.

Residential Buildings

Using Red Iron for residential buildings (commonly used in barndominiums and metal homes) opens up possibilities for more modern aesthetics while offering extreme strength. You can customize your home to your liking with large vaulted ceilings and wide-open floor plans.
Square tubing provides a strong skeleton inside walls or support decks and porches, while Cee Perlins offer hidden support for those tall ceilings and open floor plans. Base angles cleanly anchor onto concrete pads. Everything else can be easily finished off with metal panels and trim kits.

Industrial Buildings

Red Iron offers low maintenance and precision strength. Building with Red Iron means easy safety code compliance, with Cee Perlins and square tubing serving as your load-bearing champions. These are great when building crane bays, large or heavy equipment storage, such as in aircraft hangars.
Base angles and receiver channels offer simple integration with large roll-up doors and interior insulation systems. Red Iron metal also offers easy expansion and integration of add-on frames, allowing your buildings to grow as you do.

Red Iron Metal FAQs

Do You Offer Red Iron Metal Fasteners And Accessories?

At Legacy Metal Center, we offer the Red Iron fasteners to go with everything. Almost finished with your building, or need metal to cover it? We offer a full range of metal panels, including all fasteners, roofing, and siding accessories that you may need. Explore our catalog or contact us for more information.

Is The Red Iron Oxide Primer Weatherproof?

It’s weather-resistant with its rust protection, but not weatherproof.
Here in sunny Colorado, where it is sunny all year round, Red Iron can last up to 20 years, depending on the topcoat, before needing to be repainted.

  • For long-term industrial or exposed framing, we recommend painting them every 2-5 years when used for exterior applications.
  • In harsh, salty coastal environments, yearly touchups and repaints are recommended.

What’s the difference between red iron framing and wood framing?

Building with Red Iron allows for you to build greater spans than wood alone can cover. It can also hold more weight, it’s fire-resistant, and requires lower long-term maintenance. While wood is cheaper up front, it’s less durable and requires more maintenance in the long term, especially when building larger-scale or high-moisture construction projects.

What Guage of red iron Metal do you offer?
